Hush Puppy Haven

About Us

Hush Puppy Haven is collaborating with the Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County to provide more domestic violence survivors assistance by caring for their pet(s) while they are in crisis. By doing this, we help ease the emotional stress and worry of the survivor and others, such as children in the family, knowing their pet will be well-cared for and loved while they begin the healing process and will be kept safe from harm until they can be reunited.
We are a non-profit organization incorporated on April 15, 2011, operating out of Daytona Beach and serving Volusia County, Florida. There are no paid staff at Hush Puppy Haven. All donations go directly to caring for these pets and related program expenses.

Our founder, current board members and volunteers have collective experience in pet care, veterinary technician, volunteerism, non-profit organization, public relations, legal and in founding a pet rescue. The majority of us have also rescued pets ourselves.

We will provide temporary foster care, pet transportation to and from our care and to/from veterinary visits when necessary while in our care, assistance with vaccines, spay/neuter if needed and food and supplies if needed (i.e. leash, collar, toys, bed, etc.).

We will provide these services through an application process for the domestic violence survivor, an application and home visit process for prospective foster families and by seeking the cooperation of local animal hospitals, victim advocates, law enforcement, crisis centers, local veterinarians, churches and family physicians and letting them know that the program is available.

The Inspiration

Our mascot, "Lil G," is a sweet little Chihuahua who spent 10 years of her life in a puppy mill until she was rescued by our founder back in May of 2010. She then promised Lil G that she would be spoiled for the rest of her life, which she is, along with her two "sisters." :-) Although not a rescue, this organization was born in honor of those pets who have suffered in many different forms and to provide safe haven for those in domestic violence situations.

Hush Puppy Haven will only receive pets through
the
Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County.
